This book could have been edited down to half of its size, and it would have been able to tell the same exact story! The length at which everything was drawn out made me crazy.
I liked the originality of the story. Gaiman's multifarious cast of gods made me riveted for more about them, but we get stuck with the boring Shadow, who sits back and lets everything happen to him, and then reacts in a mildly surprised manner. Any scene without Shadow in it kept me reading. The whole time Shadow was in the small town (was it Minnesota?), felt like the story was just plodding along.
However, everything does show its purpose in the book, which I appreciate. Why did it take so long to get to the end?
